A HEAD OF THE “KING OF THE WOODS,” THE WITCHES' GOD, FORMED OF LEAVES. In the old days, when witches were forced to attend church, they often managed to include their god among the church carvings. He is to be found in many old churches, although each carving is different in order to conceal his identity. This example is in the Museum of Magic and Witchcraft, Castletown.

A WITCH'S ALTAR, IN THE CIRCLE, SET OUT FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF RITES.

While the Church was influenced by people with this mentality, one can understand the “Why” of many of its actions. When the witch cult, on the other hand, regarded St. Augustine as being a singularly nasty-minded old man, and believed in the divine purpose and sanctity of its Horned and Phallic God and His Moon Goddess consort, one can also understand the “Why” of its beliefs and actions, and the origin of the centuries-long conflict that was joined between them, and which is not resolved yet.
